Baton Rouge Native, Boston University Graduate Works in New Orleans at Crucial Time for Communication
NEW ORLEANS (July 20, 2006)— This summer, Boston University Graduate Anna Whitlow joins Deveney Communication (www.deveney.com) as the firm’s 2006 Summer Scholar. The Deveney Communication’s Summer Scholar program offers hands-on experience in the public relations field providing recent PR and communications graduates an opportunity for networking, career advancement and industry exposure.
The Deveney Communication Summer Scholar program is a national collaboration between the Public Relations Student Society of America (www.prssa.org) and Deveney Communication. The program began in 2004.
“This program allows us to select from the best of the best in the next generation of public relations professionals,” said Senior Counsel John Deveney, ABC. “With her publicity plan and throughout the interview process, Anna impressed us with her ability to deliver creative ideas grounded in thorough research.”
As Summer Scholar, Whitlow acts as a full-time member of the Deveney Communication team. For her efforts, she receives a stipend and paid housing in New Orleans. She assists each member of the staff in public relations and marketing activities for clients such as the Louisiana Office of Tourism (www.louisianatravel.com),
Starbucks Coffee Company (www.starbucks.com), Cox Communications New Orleans (www.cox.net), Fisher & Phillips, LLP (www.laborlawyers.com) and Ruth’s Chris Steak House (www.ruthschris.com)
Whitlow, a May 2006 graduate of Boston University’s College of Communication, was selected from a nationwide pool of applicants after a rigorous application and interview process. Applicants were asked to create timed writing samples and a public relations and marketing plan to showcase writing talent, strategy skills and knowledge of public relation tactics.
Whitlow is a native of Baton Rouge and an Episcopal High School alumna. As a student at Boston University, she completed an internship with Infectious Publicity and Cone, Inc. and spent a semester abroad in London. During her semester abroad, she worked at Warner Brothers Records, UK.
“I am so delighted to be a part of the Deveney team, especially at this crucial time for communication in New Orleans,” Whitlow, a Baton Rouge, La. native, said. “The chance to be here to assist in the rebuilding of this city is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
