NEW ORLEANS—PRWeek, located in New York City, singled out New Orleans’ Deveney Communication as one of the top five boutique public relations firms in the country. The magazine also named Deveney Communication strategist Nicholas Shapiro among the top five young PR professionals of the year.
“I am absolutely floored, as it is a real honor to be acknowledged by and with the industry’s best,” said senior counsel John Deveney, ABC, APR. “We were approached about applying for it, but I wasn’t real optimistic because our region hasn’t been tapped for this sort of thing before.”
Awards for the number one spot in each category will be presented during a March reception at New York City’s famed Tavern on the Green. Boutique firms also recognized by the awards are located in Michigan, New Jersey, Nevada and New York. The other young PR professionals are employed at four of the largest PR firms in the world.
“The announcement really shocked me,” says 23-year old Nicholas Shapiro. “I work with great people and have the best clients a practitioner could want. I love coming to work everyday, and being recognized for my efforts makes it even better.”
Boutique Agency of the Year is selected from PR firms whose annual revenue is $2 million or less. The agencies recognized by the award all excel in terms of financial strength, client growth and retention, innovative use of technology, professional and community involvement and PR creativity.
PR professionals who entered the profession no more than three years ago are eligible for Young PR Professional of the Year. Nominees were judged on their achievement in handling clients and managing senior staff, as well as their excellence in developing PR strategy, business savvy, creativity, knowledge of PR tactics and contribution to business objectives.
