Brenna Thorpe is Deveney’s resident Northerner, hailing from Pittsburgh, PA (and still convinced that her black and gold is better than New Orleans’ black and gold). A student at Penn State who is set to graduate in December, Brenna is currently taking a Southern adventure by living and working as the 2011 Deveney Summer Scholar.
At Penn State, Brenna is a student in the Schreyer Honors College, studying public relations and rhetorical studies. And boy is she busy! Besides having a dual degree, this self-professed nerd was an account associate for the student-run firm Happy Valley Communications, served as the PR chair for the Penn State Mock Trial Club, interned for the State College Area School District and for her home town senior care company, Home Care Assistance—all at once. Harnessing her love of research and living ‘green,’ she is currently working on her honors thesis: Sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility Communication in the Fortune 200.
Believe it or not, there is actually a lot of time when Brenna isn’t working. In these times, you can find her vintage shopping, cooking, talking to strangers, listening to 90’s music, reading and wandering around the city (probably sampling beignets or using her iPhone to locate herself when she gets lost!). This is her first time in New Orleans – or really anywhere in the South – and she’s excited to jump into the season headfirst. Just don’t talk to her about the humidity.
